What to Expect at Your First Consultation

Practical guidance for your first visit to Shri Manmukund Hospital. Anorectal consultations especially can feel intimidating; this guide helps you feel prepared.

Answer-First Summary

Your first consultation at Shri Manmukund Hospital typically takes 30 to 45 minutes and includes detailed history-taking, physical examination, discussion of findings, and treatment options. Companions are welcome. Female patients may specifically request Dr. Swati. Bring any previous medical records. There is no need to be embarrassed; we see these conditions daily and treat every patient with dignity.

Before You Come

Book an appointment: call 8208927917 or WhatsApp to schedule. Walk-in is also possible during OPD hours but a booked appointment reduces waiting time.

Bring:

  • Any previous prescriptions or medical records
  • List of current medications (or the medicines themselves)
  • Any imaging or reports (ultrasound, MRI, CT scans, blood tests) from previous evaluations
  • Aadhaar or other identity document
  • Insurance card if applicable

Wear comfortable clothing that allows easy access to the area of concern if it will be examined.

Do not fast unless we specifically instruct you to. Come after a normal meal.

When You Arrive

Reception: register at the reception desk with your name and appointment details.

Waiting: the waiting area is comfortable and private. Your wait time depends on the day's OPD schedule; we try to minimise it.

Consultation: you will be called into the doctor's consultation chamber (Dr. Vipin's or Dr. Swati's based on your preference or the appointment).

What Happens in the Consultation

Detailed history (10 to 15 minutes): The doctor will ask about your symptoms, when they started, how they have progressed, what treatments you have tried, your general health, medications, and any relevant family history. Please answer honestly and completely; nothing you say surprises us.

Physical examination (5 to 10 minutes): For most conditions, examination includes inspection and gentle physical assessment. For anorectal conditions, this typically includes digital rectal examination and sometimes proctoscopy. The examination is uncomfortable but rarely painful. It is done in privacy with dignity maintained throughout.

Discussion of findings (10 to 15 minutes): The doctor will explain what was found, what the likely diagnosis is, what investigations if any are needed, and what treatment options exist. You will have time to ask questions.

Investigations if needed: Blood tests, imaging, or other investigations may be scheduled. Some can be done on-site.

Next steps: Treatment plan, prescription, follow-up appointment.

Bringing a Companion

You are welcome to bring a family member or friend. Many patients find it helpful to have someone present:

  • During the initial discussion
  • To help remember information
  • For moral support

For examinations, your preference determines whether the companion is present. Female patients may specifically request Dr. Swati and may have female companions present throughout.

Common Concerns

"I am embarrassed about my symptoms." Every symptom you might describe is one we hear regularly. Anorectal conditions in particular are common, and we treat many patients daily. Nothing you say will surprise us or make us judge you.

"What if I have been ignoring this for years?" Many patients delay for years before consulting. We do not judge. We start from where you are and plan the best way forward.

"I do not want a male doctor to examine me." Female patients can specifically request Dr. Swati. Please mention this when booking.

"What if I need surgery?" Not every consultation ends in a surgery recommendation. Many conditions are managed with lifestyle changes, medication, or minor procedures. If surgery is genuinely needed, we discuss the options honestly.

"How much will this cost?" Consultation fees are modest. Investigation and treatment costs depend on what is needed. We discuss costs openly. Call 8208927917 for current consultation fees.
